Dhoomimal Gallery (DMG), established in 1936 by Shri Ram Babu Jain, is India's oldest contemporary art gallery. Initially a meeting hub for artists, it showcased works by renowned figures like M.F. Husain and F.N. Souza. After Shri Jain's death, his son Ravi revitalized the gallery, making significant contributions to Indian contemporary art in the 1970s. Mr. Thakral is also the Executive Director at CJ International Hotels Ltd, New Delhi, which owns Le Meridien New Delhi. In 1996, he founded Heritage Transportation Trust (HTT) to preserve India's transportation heritage. As Founder and Managing Trustee, he established the Heritage Transport Museum, which opened in December 2013. This week on Chaibrary, we are pleased to present the artistic journey of Niren Sengupta, an eminent visual artist and former principal of the College of Art, New Delhi, in conversation with Kiran Mohan Niren Sengupta, born January 1940 in Bengal, is a multidisciplinary artist. With a science degree from Calcutta University and an arts degree from Government College of Art & Crafts, Calcutta, he merges inner reflections with serenity, sacrifice, and service. Art, to him, is a sacred dialogue and a vehicle for communion. He draws inspiration from the tranquil surrender of Ramakrishna Mission monks. With over 30 years of teaching experience, Sengupta co-founded 'Gallery 26' in Kolkata and contributes to Calcutta painters and Academy of Visual Media, New Delhi. His accolades include the AIFACS and NBT Awards, as well as the Udayan Care Humanity Award.
